What we heard in Foxborough, Massachusetts

We sent three of our top Gorillas, Patrick Lane, President, Einav Ornan, Senior Principal Product Manager, and Mike Taylor, Director of Client Experience, to MEDITECH LIVE 26, MEDITECH’s annual leadership summit, held September 29 to October 1, 2026 in Foxborough, MA. This year’s program centered on new developments in AI-enabled care and data-driven strategies.

Like all Health Gorillas, they arrived curious and joined sessions, panels, and hallway conversations with health system leaders from across the MEDITECH community. Traverse Exchange, MEDITECH’s nationwide interoperability network, was one of the most discussed topics of the week, and the numbers explain why.

Traverse Exchange now connects more than 800 MEDITECH facilities across 200 organizations, spans 45 states and U.S. territories, and has supported the exchange of more than 430 million clinical documents. Health Gorilla is the QHIN behind MEDITECH’s Traverse Exchange, which connects users to TEFCA (as a QHIN), Carequality, CommonWell, eHealth Exchange.

Clinicians want outside data where they already work

Health system leaders and clinicians described the Traverse Exchange Consolidated Patient Summary as one of the most valuable tools they have for seeing care that happened outside their own walls. MEDITECH’s announcement during the summit focused on the network’s Consolidated Patient Summary, which has seen swift adoption since its unveiling last year, giving care teams faster access to critical information and reducing duplicate testing.

What this means

◎ Organized for review: a chart summary, not a stack of CCDs

◎ On the right patient: opens in the chart, no extra login

◎ Multiple national networks: searched for each patient

◎ Deduplicated, not deleted: original documents kept for review

AI raises the stakes for good data

AI was everywhere at the conference. Attendees heard first-hand insights from early adopters of AI-driven tools like Ask Expanse, and one keynote point stuck with our team: much of the value in a patient record lives in unstructured notes and scanned documents.

Traverse Exchange provides access to health information for more than 43 million patients nationwide. Complete, well-organized external data from national networks is the foundation that makes clinical AI trustworthy.

Transparency builds trust in the network

MEDITECH showcased the Traverse Exchange Customer Management Portal which shows who health systems share with, how much data flows, and whether each connection is working.

Health systems want to see their exchange activity: who they share with, how much data flows, and whether every connection is working. Clear reporting helps support teams catch problems early and gives leaders concrete evidence of the value interoperability brings to their organizations and communities.

The same principle shapes how Health Gorilla operates as a QHIN. In our CMS pledge demonstration, every step of a request is logged and auditable, from identity verification to record delivery.

Expect demand for this kind of visibility to keep growing across the industry.

The network is built with privacy in mind: patient data is not stored in Traverse Exchange Canada, which uses a federated, query-based approach to locate data across the network.

Policy momentum continues

Attendees spent plenty of time on the CMS Aligned Networks initiative and TEFCA, both of which are reshaping how patient data moves across the country. Health Gorilla is one of the early adopter data networks that pledged to implement the CMS Interoperability Framework, and MEDITECH participates in TEFCA through Health Gorilla’s QHIN.

Health Gorilla looks forward to continued collaboration with MEDITECH and the broader industry as these programs mature.

Looking Ahead

MEDITECH LIVE reinforced what we hearfrom health systems everywhere: interoperability matters most when clinicianscan see and use the data in the moment of care, whether that moment is anechocardiogram result an hour old or a discharge summary from across the state. We are grateful to MEDITECH and its clients for the open conversations, and welook forward to building on them in the year ahead.
